thanks brad. i was 100% surprised to hear that this am....wow! but imagine the joy he is experiencing right now...what a WONDERFUL welcome....wow!!
I was thinking back to my time at Southern Virginia College. Kindee had made arrangements for me to direct the choir in a Regional Conference. Ang and Matt were there. There were a few thousand people in attendance. The choir sat behind him and Marjorie, on the stand. Me and Kindee and Reese were directly behind him — we would make motions of tapping his shoulder and waving, although we never did b/c that would have been too kid-like. That is how close he was. When he stood up and approached the mic, for his time to speak, he said, "I heard this choir sings a version of 'Shenendoah', is that right?" He turned to me and all I could do was nod, really quickly. "Well, its not the most spiritual song, but do you think you could do it?" Again, nodding feverishly. "Well, don't sit around all day, let's hear it!" I literally LEPT from my seat and made my way to the piano to hit a B-flat for pitch. Kindee later told me that I RAN across the stage. My response: "What would you do if the prophet told you to hurry?!"I was thinking of people, older than me, that have referred to past prophets as "theirs." Well, he's mine. All mine. And I think that is how a lot of us feel about him.Wonderful, beautiful, precious Prophet Dear.
me as well---wow--i agree with you jen and dal--we love him so much and can't help but sit and contemplate my wonderful prophet, and who is next in his path--these wonderful men who lead us!I love you, angie.
Brad thanks so much. We were all suprised last night when we heard the news. But it was interesting how President Hinckley had been in the air for the past few days. I had just listened to a talk by his son about Pres Hinckleys prophetic priorities. It was awsome. Our stake president had just shared with us on Saturday night how he and his wife for their scripture study have been reading all of his conference talks since he has been the prophet. (craig and I are going to do that). Then on Sunday morning on our way to a stake conference that was televised from SLC for all of Florida, georgie and South Carolina, the kids were talking about Pres. Monson becoming our next prophet when President Hinckley dies. They were a little spooked by that. We will miss him so much. But we know how happy he is to see his sweet wife! Our speaker yesturday was President Monson! He was a little somber, different, intimate. He knew im sure that his time was close. It was interesting. My kids thought it was wonderful we were able to hear him speak so personally to us right before he took the mantle of prophet. Love to all!
Thanks for the comments...I will truly miss President Hinkley...it seems that he would never leav us, but I do rejoice in the knowledge that he has embraced his wife, parents, loved ones, past prophets, and especially the Lord Jesus Christ. He did so much for the church in getting our message to the world. He was a media savvy man, with an understanding how the media worked, and how it could help the gospel move around the world. I hope his loved one feel the Lord's spirit in the upcoming days.. I guess the real question is, " will we now live what he taught for so long???"
Thanks Brad for the thoughtful message on our blog about our dear and beloved Pres. Hinkley. We have all been holding our breath I think knowing that it was going to come any time. At our study group meeting last week, Bro. Edgley told us that he was not doing well. That was kind of like a heads up for what was to come. How grateful I am for all of your tender comments of love and sadness at his passing. He has truly been our prophet for most of my kids lives and for sure most of our grandkids. We all have such tender and personal feelings of what his life has meant to each of us. I would like to echo Doug in his thought that now we will show the Lord of our love for Pres. Hinckley by living the way he taught us to live. Thanks again for all your tender thoughts. I am sure our family is united in our thoughts and prayers this day and for family night tonight. Love you all. . . xoxo MOm
